Sustainable Table
Mission:
To educate consumers and increase demand for sustainable food through awareness campaigns and promotional events, and through offering viable solutions to problems.
Background:
Created in 2003 by the GrassRoots Action Center for the Environment (GRACE), Sustainable Table is a consumer campaign promoting the consumption of wholesome food from healthy animals. The site supports the sustainable food movement and directs consumers to leading organizations working on sustainable food and agriculture issues, such as raising food that does not harm the environment, providing humane conditions for workers and animals, assuring farmers a fair wage, and supporting rural communities.
Outstanding Web Feature:
The Sustainable Table Web site provides an introduction to sustainability; a guide to sources of wholesome local food; questions to ask food suppliers; resources for providing sustainable food in schools; featured articles and recipes; movement partners; and a free subscription to an e-newsletter and action alerts. The site also features Meatrix and Meatrix II: Revolting, animated shorts on factory farming, with support materials, including Meatrix Interactive 360.
