ViewChange.org
Mission:
To harness the power of stories to promote global development.
Background:
Launched by the Link TV network in November 2010, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ViewChange.org is a multimedia Web site that combines video stories with semantic Web technology to automatically generate links between the site's content and development-related videos, articles, and blog posts across the Web. Videos featured on the site — which also are shared on the Link TV network, which reaches 47 million homes in the United States — reflect progress being made toward the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the ViewChange.org site can browse a video library by topic, location, or keyword. Each film has a player page, which includes additional information about the creators, a transcript, other relevant content from around the Web, and a call to action related to the subject matter of the video. Registered users can create a profile to keep track of their favorite videos; share videos by creating video playlists; leave comments; and download videos. (An existing Google, Yahoo, OpenID, or Facebook account is required for registration.) The site also features a how-to guide for site visitors and a blog.
