World Pulse

World Pulse

Mission:
To lift and unite women's voices and accelerate their impact in the world.

Background:
Founded in 2003 by journalist Jensine Larsen, World Pulse is an action media network powered by women from a hundred and ninety countries who are working to bring about social change through online citizen journalism. To that end, the World Pulse site enables women to share their stories, exchange resources, and propose solutions to global problems, while the organization's annual online citizen journalism and digital empowerment training program, "Voices of Our Future," matches women correspondents from around the world with mentors and provides them with publishing and networking opportunities.

Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the site can browse the organization's online magazine, read the World Pulse blog, or become a member of the community. Members can post their own articles, respond to or create calls to action, and participate in digital action campaigns, including WWW: Women Weave the Web, which seeks to raise awareness about the gender digital divide and expand Internet access for women through blog posts about barriers to access, an interactive map, and a photo gallery. Visitors also can learn about volunteer opportunities and local events such as workshops and fundraisers and/or make a donation.
