Equity Conversation Guides for Young Leaders and Partners
The Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Equity Conversation Guides for Young Leaders and Partners provides meeting materials and step-by-step instructions for holding facilitated conversations with young people about dismantling structural racism. The four guides — Understanding the Basics: Core Concepts and Terms, Digging Deep: Historical Context of Child Welfare Systems, Discovering Self: Identity and Culture, and Sharing Power: History and Contributions of Organizing in the Continuum of Youth Engagement — introduce basic concepts of equality, equity, and justice and different types of racism, offer a comprehensive look at how race has operated in child welfare and youth justice systems since the 1600s; enable personal understanding and reflection about identify among those who have experienced foster care; and help participants learn how youth organizing has produced lasting positive change.
