Bezos awards nearly $120 million in Amazon shares
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has awarded shares of the company valued at nearly $120 million to unnamed nonprofit organizations, Forbes reports.
The information is based on Securities and Exchange Commission filings released last week. Bezos transferred 47,727 shares of Amazon stock, worth a total of $118 million based on that day’s closing stock price, to an unnamed nonprofit. According to Forbes, Bezos has given an estimated $2.5 billion in philanthropic contributions over his lifetime.
According to Forbes, Bezos’s philanthropic giving tends to be made through gifts of Amazon shares, which the receiving nonprofit is allowed to sell without paying capital gains taxes. He is believed to be the third-richest person in the world, with assets totaling an estimated $141.6 billion.
