Bill Ackman donates $3.25 million to buy ambulances for Ukraine
Pershing Square Foundation founder and trustee Bill Ackman has pledged $3.25 million to fund a fleet of ambulances in support of the humanitarian response to the war in Ukraine, Reuters reports.
The gift from Ackman—a Giving Pledge signatory, whose great grandfather emigrated from Ukraine to the United States—will cover the purchase and operation of 15 ambulances to be used in the war zone and operated by Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) a Malta-based humanitarian aid group. The Toyota 4x4 Land Cruiser ambulances to be purchased cost roughly $116,000 each and come with an extended roof that allows medical personnel to stand as they treat patients.
According to Reuters, Whitney Tilson—a member of Pershing Square’s advisory board—who has been leading the MOAS effort to buy ambulances for Ukraine, was reported to have “walked [Ackman] through the…slide deck I put together about my ambulances-for-Ukraine mission, and on the spot he agreed to donate $3.25 million.”
