The Blue Shield of California Foundation has announced that it is investing $6.2 million in organizations around the state, with nearly half supporting a promising innovation in domestic violence prevention.

The foundation announced 17 grants designed to have significant impact for Californians most affected by health inequities. A total of $2.9 million will be distributed to six organizations over two and a half years focused on community-responsive restorative practices that will help end cycles of domestic violence. Recipients include the East Los Angeles Women’s Center and Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth.

In addition, the foundation allocated $1.4 million to organizations working to strengthen economic security and mobility among families in need in California, including United Ways of California and the California Community Colleges CalWORKs Association. The foundation also awarded $865,000 to organizations that fulfill the mission of aligning systems with community priority.

“This is an exciting time to be working with our partners toward achieving health equity and ending domestic violence in California,” said Blue Shield of California Foundation president and CEO Debbie I. Chang. “We are proud to invest in leaders who are collaborating, innovating, and scaling up positive change for communities of color with low incomes.”
