Boys & Girls Clubs Receive $2.5 Million to Improve Facilities
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Lowe's have announced a $2.5 million initiative to improve and expand facilities at fifty clubs across the nation.
The first grants awarded through the Renovation Across America program will provide $50,000 to a Boys & Girls Club in each state for renovations ranging from kitchen repairs to amenities that influence creativity and well-being such as music studios and counseling spaces. Club members also will be able to decorate their renovated spaces by customizing an original mural designed by a 16-year-old member of the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida. The artist will paint her mural in New York City's Harlem neighborhood, and each club will be able to stencil and customize it to their own location. Launched this year to enhance the club experience, the Renovation Across the Nation initiative also will enlist Lowe's employee volunteers to help with the work.
"Boys & Girls Clubs drive academic success, influence positive health and wellness, and build good character and citizenship for America's kids and teens, putting them on a path to great futures," said BGCA president and CEO Jim Clark.
