Candid, Apple Pay partner on GivingTuesday efforts

Candid has announced it is partnering with Apple Pay to make it easier for nonprofits to accept donations on GivingTuesday—and beyond.

Last year, GivingTuesday, which currently has national movements in more than 85 countries, raised $2.7 billion in the United States through its fundraising effort on the Tuesday after Black Friday. This year, on November 29, nonprofits that have earned a Candid Seal of Transparency will be able to accept donations with Apple Pay, providing donors with an easy, secure, and private way to give.

Charities with a Candid Seal of Transparency provide information about their mission, contact details, leadership, grantmaker status, programs, financial information, strategic plans, and/or metrics that help funders and donors make educated giving decisions. The seal, which nonprofits receive for free, also gives organizations additional benefits such as appearing on more than 200 charitable sites. To earn a Candid Seal of Transparency, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization can log into Candid’s GuideStar to share up-to-date required information.

By integrating Apple Pay into payment platforms, nonprofits make it easy for donors to set up recurring donations, pledges, memorial gifts, and gift donations. Once a nonprofit receives its Candid Seal of Transparency, it can reach out to its donation platform to start the set-up process. Apple Pay also leverages the security features built into all Apple devices, so every transaction is designed to be secure.

“In this time of unprecedented need, nonprofits are stretching to do work at a scale that matches demand,” said Candid CEO Ann Mei Chang. “People want reliable information about nonprofits they care about and easier ways to give to them. Offering Apple Pay as a convenient, secure payment method makes it easier for donors to support nonprofits doing great work.”
