Carnegie Corporation of New York awards $31.1 million in grants

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has announced 37 grants totaling more than $31.1 million.

Grants awarded through the foundation’s International Program include more than $1 million over three years to the University of Denver for training, research, and outreach to bridge the gap between academia and the policy world; $1 million over two years to Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., in support of efforts to strengthen U.S. expertise about Russia; and $400,000 over two years to the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation in Washington, D.C., in support of nuclear policy outreach and education for Congress.

Grants awarded through the foundation’s National Program include $900,000 over three years to Arizona State University Foundation for New American University in Tempe for core support of the Center on Reinventing Public Education; $500,000 to EducationCounsel in Washington, D.C., to help advance a learning systems approach in education; $700,000 over 18 months to the Highlander Institute in Providence, Rhode Island, to pilot a new approach to culturally responsive, community-driven schools; $1 million over 18 months to New Profit Inc. in Boston to advance and improve the mental health of young people; and $1.5 million over two years to Windward Fund inWashington, D.C., for core support of a funder collaborative working to strengthen civic engagement in rural communities.

In addition, the foundation awarded three grants through its Special Opportunities Fund, including $1 million over two years to Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association, Inc. in Arlington, Virginia, for core support of the PBS NewsHour.
