Charles Huang Foundation awards $7 million to Chinese Hospital

The Charles Huang Foundation in Pasadena, California, has announced a $7 million gift to San Francisco’s Chinese Hospital.

The single largest gift in the hospital’s 123-year history will fund redevelopment of the hospital’s outpatient tower, expanding its capacity and services, including subacute care beds, surgical suites, mental health programs, and nutrition services, as well as laboratory and administrative improvements. The building will be renamed in honor of the foundation established by Charles Huang, founder of Pasaca Capital, a private equity firm in Los Angeles.

“With this generous gift, the Chinese Hospital will be able to expand much-needed services for local community and San Francisco at large,” said Chinese Hospital CEO Jian Zhang.

“The Chinese Hospital…has an excellent tradition of caring for the local community, especially those less privileged groups,” said Huang. “I hope that my donation can also show the American society that Asian Americans, in particular Chinese Americans, do care about our communities, give back to our communities in order to make our communities better and stronger.”
