Children's Hospital LA Receives $2.3 Million for Surgical Robot

Children's Hospital Los Angeles has announced a $2.3 million gift from actor Kirk Douglas and his wife, Anne, for a robot to support its pediatric urology division.

Awarded through the Douglas Foundation, the gift will enable the hospital to purchase a da Vinci robot for the Division of Pediatric Urology in its Department of Surgery. Established in 2009, CHLA's Robotic Program has performed more than four hundred successful surgeries to date and, over the past two years, has expanded its scope to include children as young as four months.

"This generous gift from the Douglas Foundation, which also supports the training of physicians in the use of the equipment, comes at a critical time in advancing the hospital’s pediatric surgical program," said CHLA president and CEO Richard D. Cordova, F.A.C.H.E. "This single piece of equipment will create more hope and better treatment outcomes for thousands of children suffering from a variety of issues that can be improved surgically."
