Children's Hospital of San Antonio Receives $4 Million in Grants
Children's Hospital of San Antonio has received grants totaling $4 million to expand its pediatric services and make upgrades, the San Antonio Express reports.
The grants include $3 million from the Valero Energy Foundation, the charitable arm of San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corp., to expand the hospital's pediatric care unit. The funds will enable the cancer unit to begin performing bone marrow transplants — a new service at the hospital. In addition, a $1 million gift from the Kleese Foundation, the family foundation of Valero's chairman and former CEO Bill Klesse and his wife, Margie, will support upgrades in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, which cares for more than seven hundred babies each year.
"We need a top-of-the-line children's hospital," said Bill Klesse. "The care that the children of San Antonio get here really will be second to none."
