Several Cincinnati institutions, including the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, the University of Cincinnati (UC), and the Cincinnati Nature Center, were awarded gifts of up to $50 million from the estate of local “quiet millionaire” Hugh Hoffman, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Hoffman was an investment advisor for W.E. Hutton & Co. and Thomson McKinnon in Cincinnati. According to the Enquirer, his estate was estimated to be worth $270.5 million. He died March 2 in Cincinnati at 91 years old. While the exact totals of Hoffman’s donations are unclear, UC and the Cincinnati Zoo will receive about $50 million, the Cincinnati Nature Center will get between $20 million and $25 million, and the Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Garden Center, and the Little Miami Conservancy will each receive $100,000. An additional $70 million was set aside for charities with programs “dedicated to the research or treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis” or charities that research or treat concussions, according to the Enquirer.

“For the nature center, it is nothing short of transformational for us,” said Cincinnati Nature Center executive director Jeff Corney.
