Comcast, YMCA of the USA Launch Digital Literacy Partnership

Comcast Corporation has announced a $15.3 million partnership with the YMCA of the USA to improve the lives of children and families by boosting home access to the Internet and digital literacy programs.

The multiyear initiative is designed to build public awareness of the Y's work, with a focus on its "For a Better Us" campaign of public service announcements in English and Spanish. To help level the playing field for low-income families, Comcast also will expand its support of the Internet Essentials digital literacy program and academic achievement programs at Ys nationwide with grants totaling $50,000 to the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA, the YMCA of Central Maryland, the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, the YMCA of the Greater Houston, and the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis.

"Closing gaps and increasing access to services that help kids and families reach their full potential is a key aspect of the Y's mission. Comcast shares our passion for social equity, and this partnership is evidence of that," said Kevin Washington, president and CEO of YMCA of the USA. "Whether it's helping children succeed in school, connecting families to essential resources, or eliminating isolation for seniors, the Y is here to help."
