Florida

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice has announced that registration is open for its free outdoor event, Better Together, which will take place on March 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in downtown Sarasota. The Better Together State Street block party will include activities that celebrate education, arts, health and human services, and the environment.

Maine

The Maine Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $154,498, Mainebiz reports. Grants from the foundation’s Maine Charity Foundation Fund and donors with advised funds at foundation will support projects including volunteer transportation programs and food delivery services across the state. Recipients include Black Owned Maine, Friends in Action, People Plus, and Safe Voices.

Michigan

The Community Foundation of Greater Flint (CFGF) has announced that eight Flint-based nonprofit organizations directed by people of color have been invited to join a fellowship cohort designed to strengthen their individual, organizational, and collective resiliency. The inaugural Enterprising Ventures of Color Fellowship Cohort will focus on strengthening the long-term capacity and infrastructure of participating nonprofit organizations. The foundation is partnering with the Charles Stewart Mott and Ruth Mott foundations, as well as the United Way of Genesee County and the Greater Flint Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Inequities to fund the venture. The Enterprising Ventures of Color Fund, established at CFGF, supports the program.

Minnesota

The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) in Bemidji has announced grants and loans totaling more than $840,000 in the second quarter of its fiscal year. NMF awarded more than $450,000 through local philanthropic activities, more than $264,000 through its discretionary grant programs, and more than $126,000 through loans to small business owners. In addition, the Northwest Small Business Development Center, for which NMF serves as the host, provided 764 hours of free business consulting hours to 141 clients across the region.

New York

The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling more than $8.8 million to 42 nonprofit organizations. Recipients include Exalt Youth, the Workers Justice Project, Make the Road New York, and Friends of the Earth.

Pennsylvania

The Erie Community Foundation has announced that its North East Community Foundation affiliate has established a scholarship to benefit students of North East High School. The Gunther Edelmann Scholarship Fund, created by Edelmann’s family, will assist students who plan to continue their education at an accredited postsecondary college or university, who have demonstrated academic success and a strong work ethic, and who are willing to sacrifice for others and the greater good.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced grants totaling nearly $110,000 through its Black Philanthropy Bannister Fund. Established in 2007 to address the needs of the Black community, the fund supports nonprofits that offer youth development and mentoring, promote the history and achievements of Black Rhode Islanders, preserve the culture of the Black community, and strive to uplift low-income Black families. Recipients include the African Alliance of Rhode Island, Oasis International, Sankofa Community Connection, and Youth Moving Forward.

West Virginia

The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation & Regional Affiliates (PACF) has announced the additions of five people to its board of directors. Cynthia Brown is a retired senior appraiser for the state’s tax department, Joshua Campbell is a corporate controller, Lynn Erb is part of the management team of Fenton Glass Company and is active with the Fenton Foundation, Alice Harris is executive vice president for finance and administration of West Virginia University at Parkersburg, and Lexi Miller is an insurance agent at Curtis Miller Insurance.
