Florida

Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition, Inc. has announced the establishment of a fund at the Miami Foundation for victims of the bridge collapse at Florida International University. The FIU Bridge Accident Victims Fund can be accessed through the Youth Fair's website, www.fairexpo.com. The organization established the fund with a donation of $25,000. Donors can identify the fund with the letters BAVF when accessing it directly through the Miami Foundation website. 

Indiana

The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that the Legacy Fund, an affiliate fund serving Hamilton County, has awarded grants totaling $123,000 to nine organizations serving residents in the county. Recipients include Englishton Park Presbyterian Ministries, Chaucie's Place, the Murphy Mentoring Group, and Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that Irma Thomas and the Soul Rebels will headline the second annual GiveNOLA Fest on May 1. The free outdoor concert is designed to be a celebration of giving and will benefit more than seven hundred and fifty nonprofits that have signed up to participate in the fifth annual GiveNOLA Day, a community-wide, 24-hour online giving day scheduled for the same day.

New Mexico

The Los Alamos Community Foundation has received two gifts totaling $15,000 to establish an endowment for the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos, the Los Alamos Daily Post reports. Residents Pat Soran and Ann Hayes provided a gift of $10,000 to establish the Community Endowment for UNM-LA and gave an additional $5,000 to match any contribution to the endowment over the next two years.

Ohio

The Cleveland Foundation has announced that architect Sir David Adjaye will deliver the keynote lecture at the foundation's 2018 annual meeting on May 1. The architect of the Smithsonian Institute National Museum of African-American History, Adjaye was born in Tanzania to Ghanaian parents and is widely considered to be a leading architect-visionary of his generation. In 2017, he received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for services to architecture and was named one of TIME's 100 most influential people, and in February he was named the 2018 recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture.

The Columbus Foundation has issued its "5 Nonprofits to Watch 2018" list, which recognizes central Ohio nonprofits poised for exceptional growth and progress. The organizations, which will each receive a $5,000 grant, are City Year, Columbus Humane, CompDrug, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and Per Scholas.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced that it is offering local libraries, schools, municipal agencies, and nonprofit groups grants of up to $10,000 to fund proposals that bring people together as a community. Proposals should spark community engagement at the local level, be easily accessible to the community, involve new or enhance existing community partnerships, have a meaningful lasting impact on the community, and make exceptionally good use of the funds. The deadline to apply is April 6.

South Carolina

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry in Hilton Head has announced three grants totaling more than $150,000 to local organizations. The recipients are the Port Royal Sound Foundation, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, and the Marine Sensory and Neurobiology Lab at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort.

Washington

The Seattle Foundation has announced that it is participating in a new initiative, One Table, aimed at addressing the root causes of homelessness in the community. Led by King County, the City of Seattle, and the City of Auburn, the initiative will address the lack of affordable housing stock; limited access to behavioral health services, including mental health and substance abuse treatment; higher levels of homelessness among youth and young adults who have been in the child welfare system; the intersection of homelessness and the criminal justice system; and regional wage gaps and lack of access to living-wage jobs, training, and employment.

Wisconsin

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced that it awarded grants totaling $48,642 during its annual Celebrate Education event, which recognizes exceptional educators for their innovative programs and projects — in the classroom, on the field, and after school. Celebrate Education honorees include Beth Wyman, who received the Spirit of Education Award, and CastlePierce Corporation, which was awarded the Dr. Stanley J. Spanbauer Education and Leadership Award.
