California
The OC Community Resilience Fund, a COVID-19 relief fund established by the Orange County Community Foundation, has awarded a first round of grants totaling $1 million. Grants were awarded to thirty-six organizations working to provide access to food and child care, community clinic-based medical services, and support for the homeless and other vulnerable populations. Grant recipients include Anaheim Family YMCA, FACES, Latino Health Access, and Project Kinship.
Colorado
The Community Foundation Boulder County has announced a second round of grants totaling $210,000 from the COVID-19 Response Fund Boulder County. Grant recipients include Attention Homes, Colorado FriendShip, Harvest of Hope Pantry, and the Sister Carmen Community Center.
Connecticut
A group of Connecticut philanthropists has raised $10 million and formed a nonprofit organization to assist people who are experiencing hardship as a result of COVID-19 and the lockdown and shelter-in-place measures taken to combat it, the Hartford Courant reports. The Connecticut COVID-19 Charity Connection, also known as 4-CT, is working to raise additional funds that it will distribute through established nonprofit organizations to individuals with the greatest need. Administered by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 4-CT will focus its grants in the areas of education, health care, and direct support and is accepting requests for funding from community foundations, nonprofit organizations, state agencies, and individuals.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation, in partnership with the Mary Freeman Wisdom Foundation, has announced the donation of eleven thousand pieces of personal protection equipment (N95 and surgical masks) to medical staff and first responders in New Orleans. The equipment will be distributed to staff in nursing homes, first responders, and medical reserve corps volunteers engaged in the fight against the virus.
Michigan
The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced that, as of April 8, it has raised, in partnership with the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region, more than $2 million for COVID-19 relief efforts and distributed nearly $800,000 in grants. A portion of the funds were raised in response to a $15,000 matching challenge that was met by April 2. Grant recipients include St. Luke's Episcopal Church Diaper Bank, Community Healing Centers, InterAct, and the Kalamazoo Continuum of Care.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced grants totaling $452,330 from its OneMPLS Fund in support of regional efforts to address the economic impacts of COVID-19. The grants will provide support to businesses and essential programs serving communities in the region disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus, including needs such as food delivery to shut-in seniors, services for homeless youth, rent and utility payments, and support for artists and gig workers who have lost work or income as a result of the crisis.
Ohio
The Dayton Foundation has announced grants totaling nearly $500,000 from the COVID-19 Response Fund for Greater Dayton, which it established with United Way of the Greater Dayton Area (UWGDA) and a coalition of philanthropic, government, and education organizations. Grant recipients include 18th Parallel Relief, Brigid's Path, the Sinclair Community College Foundation, and the Xenia Adult Recreation Center.
South Carolina
The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has announced a first round of grants from its COVID-19 response fund. Established in mid-March to deploy resources to nonprofits in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties that are working to address the immediate needs of those impacted by COVID-19, the fund awarded grants totaling more than $158,000 to eleven organizations, including Bluffton Self Help, Second Helpings, the Lowcountry Food Bank, and Hopeful Horizons.
Texas
The San Antonio Area Foundation, in partnership with the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and others, has raised more than $3.7 million for and awarded $1.1 million in one-time general operating support grants through its COVID-19 Response Fund. Grant recipients include the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio, the Health Collaborative, and the Family Service Association.
Vermont
The Vermont Community Foundation has announced a first round of grants totaling $380,000 from its Vermont COVID-19 Response Fund.
