Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced Melanie S. Tavares as director of its nonprofit support program. Tavares has decades of experience working for private- and public-sector agencies, including the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Corporation for National and Community Service, MassHousing, YouthBuild, the Massachusetts Service Alliance, and Girl Scouts of the USA. Most recently, she served as dean's fellow in the Doctor of Education Leadership Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Indiana

The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that its Summer Youth Program Fund awarded grants totaling more than $2.9 million to nearly two hundred nonprofit organizations serving youth in Marion County. Grant recipients include the Edna Martin Christian Center, Indiana Black Expo, LifeSmart Youth, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis.

Massachusetts

The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced the launch of the CCF Social Innovation Award, which is designed to support emerging innovators working to develop solutions to urban problems in Cambridge. The deadline for the competition, which is open to individuals, students, groups, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits that are making a difference in the community, is May 10.

The Sean M. Gannon Memorial Fund at the Cape Cod Foundation has announced its inaugural grants. Created to honor Sgt. Sean Gannon, a K-9 officer with the Yarmouth Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on April 12, 2018, the fund works to promote education, health, and leadership by encouraging service through action. Grant recipients in this first funding round are Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Bedford, Stonehill College, Westfield State University, and the YMCA Cape Cod.

Montana

The Montana Community Foundation has appointed Leonard Smith and Tom McGree to its board of directors and elected Laura Brehm as its new president.

New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has announced that its Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund awarded sixteen grants totaling $358,259. Established in 2006, the Tillotson Fund is one of the largest permanent endowments dedicated to rural philanthropy in the country and distributes more than $3 million in grants annually in support of projects focused on community revitalization. Grant recipients include Acti-Sports MRC de Coaticook, Area Churches Working Together, the Cohos Trail Association, and the Northern Forest Center.

New Jersey

The Princeton Area Community Foundation has announced Marcia Shackelford as the organization's new chief philanthropy officer, effective May 10. Shackelford most recently served as vice president for development at Climate Central.

Ohio

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that several of its giving circles are re-forming and will soon announce their funding focus. Five groups are accepting new members, including the NKY Giving Circle, which supports safety net services and substance abuse treatment programs in northern Kentucky; the Animal Welfare Giving Circle; and Giving Black, the foundation's first giving circle focused on the African-American community.

Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced fifty-one grants totaling $2.9 million, including $1.6 million to organizations working to assist those left out of the region's economic renaissance. Grant recipients include Hosanna House, Point Park University, the Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts.

Texas

The San Antonio Area Foundation has announced the creation of the Live to Ride Fund, which will work to build awareness of the need for bicyclists and automobiles to share the road. Established in response to the recent cycling deaths of San Antonio residents Dr. Naji Tanios Kayruz and Tito Bradshaw, the fund resulted from a partnership between the City of San Antonio, the 80/20 Foundation, SATX Social Ride, and the San Antonio Cycling Alliance. To be administered by SAAF, the fund will work with the city to update its Bicycle Master Plan and will collaborate on the city's Vision Zero plan, a strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries among all road users and ensure safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.

Vermont

The Vermont Community Foundation has announced that the Vermont Women's Fund awarded $103,000 to fifteen nonprofit organizations working to improve the economic security of women and girls in the state. Grant recipients include Capstone Community Action, the Family Place, Let's Grow Kids, and Vermont Works for Women.

Wisconsin

The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has announced gifts totaling more than $21 million. The gifts include a bequest of more than $16.5 million from the estate of Ron and Pauline Heim in support of nearly three dozen local nonprofits in perpetuity and an unrestricted gift of $5 million from an anonymous donor. The foundation has determined that most of that gift will help fund critical nonprofit programs in the community, along with a recently announced community partnership focused on building nonprofit capacity in the region.
