California

The San Diego Foundation has announced $100,000 in grants to five local artists and their nonprofit sponsors in support of their collaborative efforts to develop and showcase an art project. Made through the San Diego Foundation Creative Catalyst program, the recipients of the grants are Erica Buechner (and Art Produce), Thelma Virata de Castro (and Asian Story Theater), Matt Morrow (and La Jolla Playhouse), Evan Apodaca (and So Say We All), and Maxx Moses (and the Urban Collaborative Project).

The San Francisco Foundation has announced the appointments of David ibnAle and Sam Ruiz to its board of directors. Since 1980, Ruiz has served as the executive director of Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc., a multi-service nonprofit organization headquartered in the city's Mission district. ibnAle is the founding and managing partner of Advance Venture Partners and has more than twenty years of experience as an investor in emerging-growth companies in the technology, commerce, and media sectors.

Florida

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has announced that its 2018 Giving Challenge on May 1 and 2 raised more than $6.1 million through 74,682 gifts from 49,207 donors, as well as an additional $5 million in matching funding from the Patterson Foundation. More than $260,000 in grants will be awarded to the organizations that received gifts from the greatest number of individual donors as well as a variety of other "best of" prizes. In total, $11,733,241 was raised during the 24-hour online fundraising event in support of 636 local organizations located in or serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties.

Indiana

The Community Foundation of Whitley County in Columbia City has announced that it will offer a week-long program aimed at building leadership skills among high school students and enhancing their understanding of philanthropy and the role nonprofit organizations play in the community. Open to a limited number of students entering their freshman or sophomore year, Camp Lend a Hand will consider applicants based on their leadership aspirations, desire to give back to their community, and previous volunteer experience. The deadline to apply is May 11.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that this year's GiveNOLA Day generated nearly $5.6 million in donations for 766 nonprofits, exceeding the 2017 total of $4.9 million. Although final numbers have not been confirmed, the total number of online donations exceeded 48,000 during the 24-hour campaign. Every dollar donated will be leveraged by additional "lagniappe" dollars provided by the foundation and its GiveNOLA Day sponsors.

Nebraska

The Omaha Foundation has announced that eighteen local neighborhood associations will receive a total of $50,000 in support of resident-led grassroots projects. Awarded through the Omaha Neighborhood Grants Program, a collaboration between the Omaha Community Foundation, Peter Kiewit Foundation, and ONE Omaha, grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 will support projects such as a pop-up alleyway market in Benson, a block party in Hanscom Park, and a prairie savannah restoration project in Spring Lake Park.

New Jersey

The Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation has announced a grant of $30,000 from the Summit Area Public Foundation in support of an expansion of the Mountainside Special Needs Primary Care Practice at the hospital's Mountainside location.

Pennsylvania

The Philadelphia Foundation and Reinvestment Fund have announced the launch of the PhilaImpactFund, a place-based impact investment opportunity targeted to the greater Philadelphia region. Together, the two organizations have committed $10 million toward the $30 million goal for the fund, which will dedicate 100 percent of the investments it makes in strengthening economic growth in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties of Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Camden, and Burlington.

Washington

King County has announced that, in partnership with the Seattle Foundation, the Voter Education Fund has awarded grants totaling more than $460,000 to thirty-three organizations working to increase voter engagement in underserved communities, including those serving communities of color, limited-English speaking communities, people with disabilities, low-income youth, veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and people who have been convicted of a felony. Recipients include Mother Africa, Nsanga Corporation, Blackout WA, and Southwest Youth and Family Services.

Wisconsin

The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $155,000 to nineteen organizations through the Funds for Greater Green Bay grant program, which funds measurable strategies designed to make a positive impact on quality of life and create a better future for residents of the community. Recipients include Baird Creek Preservation Foundation, Bridge the Gap, Hands on Deck, and Literacy Green Bay.
