Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation in Phoenix has announced the election of Jim Ameduri, Noreen Bishop, and Mi-Ai Parrish to its board of directors. Ameduri is CEO of Alize Ventures, managing director of Blue Energy Partners, and a managing partner of Pure Flix Entertainment; he also serves on the foundation's investment committee. Bishop is managing director and market manager at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. And Parrish, who previously served as president and publisher of the Arizona Republic, holds an endowed chair at the Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced eight nonprofit organizations as 2018 Freeman Challenge finalists. The finalists for the Endowment campaign are the Bayou District Foundation and Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans, while the finalists for the Board Restricted Reserve Campaign are Antenna/Press Street, the Louisiana Center for Children's Rights, the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival, Upturn Arts, Southern Rep, and the Youth Empowerment Project. The amount raised by each finalist organization during 2018 will be matched on a 1:2 basis by the Freeman family, up to $150,000. The matching funds are designed to help the organizations create or boost an endowment or build a "rainy day" fund.
Massachusetts
The Boston Foundation, in partnership with the Barr Foundation, has announced more than $785,000 in grants for Year 2 of Live Arts Boston. Sixty-five grants were awarded in support of performing artists, performing arts groups, and small producers and presenters in Greater Boston. The grantees represent a range of ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientation across the spectrum of the performing arts — from theater and music to spoken word and circus arts. Nearly three-quarters of the grantees identified as minority or racially integrated, while more than a third said it is the first time they have applied for a grant of any kind.
The Cape Cod Foundation has announced that its Falmouth Fund has awarded grants totaling nearly $100,000 to twenty-seven organizations. Recipients include the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, Belonging to Each Other, Falmouth Chorale, and the Woods Hole Film Festival.
Michigan
The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced that the Kalamazoo Flood Relief Fund has received gifts totaling $229,500 in support of relief efforts for those affected by flooding in Kalamazoo during February, when the Kalamazoo River crested at nearly twelve feet, the highest ever recorded. The fund was established by the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region (UWBCKR) and the foundation with lead gifts of $10,000 and has attracted additional gifts from individuals, businesses, and other organizations in the region.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced that it raised more than $100 million in gifts from individuals, businesses, and families during the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2018, a single-year record. The preliminary figure represents a 33 percent year-over-year increase in gifts and more than doubles the total raised by the foundation five years ago. Between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018, the foundation distributed nearly $70 million to charitable causes and organizations in Minneapolis and beyond.
North Carolina
The North Carolina Community Foundation has announced the creation of the NCCF Disaster Relief & Resilience Scholarship to assist students affected by Hurricane Matthew. The scholarship opportunity is for students who live in Fair Bluff, Kinston, Lumberton, Princeville, Seven Springs, and Windsor. Students who attend or plan to attend a two- or four-year institution of higher learning in the state are eligible to receive up to $5,000 for their undergraduate study, with the maximum award covering four years. Awards will be based on the impact of the disaster on student applicants' lives, financial need, and their demonstrated resilience. The deadline to apply is April 30.
Ohio
The Cleveland Foundation has announced the appointment of Constance Hill-Johnson and Ronald A. Ratner to its board of directors. Hill-Johnson is owner and managing director of Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services. Ratner is the chief development officer of Forest City Realty Trust.
Pennsylvania
With nearly one in seven people in Allegheny County experiencing food insecurity, the Pittsburgh Foundation has announced that it is organizing a Critical Needs Alert online fundraising event to raise money for a hundred and seventy-one Allegheny and Westmoreland County organizations that work with and supply food pantries in the region. The event (#FeedPGH) will take place on May 1, from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, and will be seeded with $600,000 from the foundation. Donations can be made through the foundation's PittsburghGives.org portal, with every donation triggering additional funding.
Wisconsin
The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has announced that the Women's Fund of Greater Green Bay has awarded eight grants totaling more than $57,000 to local nonprofit programs.
