Community Foundation Update (05/13/2023)
California
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation has announced that a record $13.8 million was raised during its Big Day of Giving for nonprofits in the region. The total exceeded the $13.4 million raised last year. Since the inception of the annual giving day in 2012, more than $91 million has been raised.
Connecticut
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced grants totaling nearly $850,000 in support of 33 programs, including enrichment, tutorial, and counselor-in-training programs. Recipients include ActUp Theater, the Community First School, Real Art Ways, and the West Indian Foundation.
Florida
The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida in Jacksonville has announced the selection of Isaiah M. Oliver as its president, effective July 31. He will succeed Nina Waters, who is retiring after 22 years at the foundation. Oliver is currently the president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in Michigan, where he has served for the past nine years, the last six as president and CEO.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $71,000 to eight organizations. Awarded through the Fund for Reno County, the grants include support for the Partridge Community Church, Grace Dental Day, Hutchinson Theatre Guild, and the Hutchinson Municipal Band.
Kentucky
The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that the National Compassion Fund, which administers the Love for Louisville Old National Bank Survivors Fund and the Love for Louisville Chickasaw Park Survivors Fund, has published draft protocols for each fund for public comment. Each draft protocol outlines the proposed process for the distribution of the funds directly to victims’ families and survivors.Public feedback will also be sought during two town hall meetings.
Louisiana
The Baton Rouge Area Foundation (BRAF) has announced the launch of a division dedicated to strengthening nonprofit organizations. The Center for Nonprofit Excellence will be the centralized entry point for area nonprofit leaders to connect with BRAF, promote giving opportunities, and participate in continuing education programs. Last year, more than 300 community members across many sectors participated in the foundation’s six-month strategic planning process. Recommendations included increasing the foundation’s capacity to serve the capital region’s nonprofits through technical and strategic support to supplement opportunities offered by other groups serving nonprofits. In turn, BRAF established the center to expand its existing nonprofit support efforts and create a dedicated entry point for nonprofits to coordinate with the foundation’s staff.
Michigan
The Battle Creek Community Foundation (BCCF) has announced that its president and CEO, Brenda Hunt, is stepping down after 30 years with the organization, effective March 31, 2024. During her tenure, including 25 years as CEO, she has helped establish two supporting organizations, supported the development of the Battle Creek Shelter, and assisted with the transition of the Burnham Brook Senior Center to the Kool Family Community Center. A transition committee has been assembled to manage the search process for BCCF’s next CEO.
The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and its supporting organizations have announced grants totaling more than $17 million during the first quarter in support of nonprofit organizations and local governments working to make a positive, permanent impact in the Detroit region. Recipients include Belle Isle Conservancy, the Michigan Nonprofit Association, Design Connect, and Friends in Deed Support.
Ohio
Greater Cincinnati Foundation has named Matthew Randazzo as its next president and CEO, effective July 17. Randazzo, who will succeed Ellen Katz, is currently president and CEO of the Dallas Foundation. A longtime nonprofit leader, Randazzo previously served as CEO of the National Math and Science Initiative, founding president and CEO of Choose to Succeed, and chief growth officer at IDEA Public Schools.
