Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that its African American Legacy Fund awarded grants totaling $50,000 to six organizations working to address the educational and economic disparities faced by African Americans living in the region. Recipients include the African American Museum of Southern Arizona, Barbea Williams Performing Company, Books for Classrooms, and Diversity in Dental Mentorships.
California
The San Diego Foundation and the Escondido Community Foundation, a regional affiliate, have partnered with the City of Escondido to grant $1.5 million to nonprofit organizations that are located in or serve the city. The City of Escondido Nonprofit Relief Fund has begun accepting online applications, and the deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on August 11.
The Orange County Community Foundation in Newport Beach has announced that its Empowering Possibilities online giving event on May 11 helped raise more than $150,000 in support of 13 organizations that provide support services to people with disabilities. Participating organizations will receive funding to offer a range of educational and support services, including skills training, counseling, and community outreach.
Connecticut
The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut in New London has announced grants totaling more than $2 million to advance greater equities in its four focus areas: youth empowerment, basic needs and rights, the environment, and animal welfare. Recipients include the Southeastern Connecticut Community Land Trust, the Health Education Center, Connecticut Forest and Park Association, and the New England Sciences and Sailing Foundation.
Kansas
The Goessel Community Foundation, an affiliate of Central Kansas Community Foundation, has announced four 2022 Community Grants totaling $3,100. Recipients include Bethesda Home, Goessel USD411, Marion County Core Community, and the Marion County Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced the appointment of seven new members to its board of trustees. Colette Campbell is chief talent acquisition and diversity officer at Bremer Bank. Thomas Fisher, a professor in the School of Architecture and former dean of the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, directs the university’s Minnesota Design Center. Dan Moreno is a Hennepin County judge, currently assigned to the serious felony criminal block. Tom Pack is an attorney at Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Lauri Roberts is a tax partner in the Twin Cities office of Wipfli. Rajiv Shah is a doctor specializing in kidney care and also a volunteer focused on combating racism. And Mark Simenstad recently retired from Thrivent Financial, where he was the chief investment strategist.
Nebraska
Front Porch Investments has announced grants totaling more than $7.3 million in the Innovation Round of funding for affordable housing development and preservation projects, as well as affordable housing supportive programs. Working with the Omaha Foundation, the firm awarded funding to help initiate three pilot programs and build 738 units of affordable housing. Recipients include Spark, Omaha Economic Development Corporation, HELP Foundation of Omaha, and the 712 Initiative.
New Jersey
The Princeton Area Community Foundation (PACF) has announced the seventh installment in its 30th anniversary video series. With the help of the James R. Halsey Foundation of the Arts, PACF created a video series that showcases nonprofits chosen from a wide variety of fields. The latest features the Trenton Children’s Chorus.
Tennessee
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced that its Big Payback giving event raised nearly $4 million for area nonprofits. The 24-hour online giving event generated 25,755 gifts, including from 6,546 first-time donors, whose gifts totaled $567,517. And in a new feature, 632 volunteers pledged more than 25,000 hours to local nonprofits.
