Alabama

The Central Alabama Community Foundation in Montgomery has announced grants totaling more than $132,000 to 18 organizations in support of family, wellness, and education initiatives in Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore counties. Recipients include Churchill Academy, Women of Refined Gold, Alabama Wildlife Federation, and Coosa RiverKeeper.

Alaska

The Juneau Community Foundation has announced that $10,000 was contributed to its Mendenhall River Flood Relief Fund through the Downtown Business Association. As part of the city’s celebration of the 77th anniversary of independence in India, downtown businesses came together to fundraise for Juneau’s flooding victims.

Arizona

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that its South32 Hermosa Community Fund has awarded $111,000 to 13 nonprofit organizations in Santa Cruz County. Recipients include the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, Lady Hawks Volleyball Rio Bico Booster, Santa Cruz Council on Aging, and Valley Assistance Services.

Arkansas

The Arkansas Community Foundation has announced the election of Tracy Cude as chair of its board of directors, and the addition of four new board members: Dennis Hunt, Brad Johnson, Osmar Garcia, and Ritter Arnold. Between 2006 and 2022, Cude was chief financial officer of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Arnold is a retired farmer and businessman and Johnson is a dermatologist. Hunt has served as an investment banker with Stephens, Inc. since 1993, and Garcia, also a banker, currently serves on several boards including the Faulkner County Community Foundation affiliate.

California

San Diego Foundation, San Diego Community Power, and Calpine Energy Solutions have announced grants totaling more than $1.2 million in support of clean energy and green workforce development projects in San Diego County, more than tripling the amount awarded in 2023. Recipients include GRID Alternatives San Diego, GoGreenish, Ocean Discovery Institute, and In Good Company.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced the addition of Marie D’Costa as executive vice president of philanthropic partnerships and Moses Zapien as executive vice president of community action, initiatives, and policy. D’Costa most recently served as vice president and chief development officer at the New York Community Trust. Zapien was CEO of the San Joaquin Community Foundation.

Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced a $350,000 grant to MakerspaceCT, a Connecticut-based nonprofit that provides workforce development programs. The organization’s Engineering Primer Program aims to provide training for high-quality jobs in underserved and vulnerable communities, support regional economies, and close the access gap in manufacturing and technology.

Maine

The Maine Community Foundation has announced that its Frances Hollis Brain Foundation Fund awarded $194,216 to 34 greater-Portland nonprofits. The program supports organizations and projects that serve disadvantaged, underserved, and vulnerable communities in Auburn, Bath, Biddeford, Brunswick, greater Portland, Lewiston, Saco, and Sanford.

Michigan

The Community Foundation of Greater Flint has announced more than $109,000 in grants in support of various projects and programs across Genesee County in 2024. The grants were distributed through the foundation’s five endowed community funds, which serve the communities of Clio, Davison, Fenton, Flushing, and Grand Blanc.

New Mexico

Los Alamos Community Foundation (LACF) and the Family YMCA have collaborated to provide local nonprofits employees with access to reduced group-rate health memberships.. The idea for nonprofit employee discounts for Y memberships sprang out of monthly executive roundtable discussions hosted by LACF. There are no financial obligations between LACF and the nonprofits, and arrangements for individual membership benefits can be pursued with the Y.

South Carolina

The Central Carolina Community Foundation in Columbia has announced that the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation awarded a total of $180,000 to six organizations in the state. The nonprofits are focused on housing, recovery, community arts, and arts education and will receive an annual grant of $10,000 for three years. Since 2000, the foundation of the eponymous rock band has awarded more than $4.1 million in financial support to South Carolina nonprofits and public schools.
