Arizona
The Tucson-based Community Foundation for Southern Arizona has announced that its Center for Healthy Nonprofits is launching a three-part grantwriting workshop series in October. Led by Carolyn Owens, the series will include program design, logic models, implementation plans, budgets, preparation of grant applications with strict attention to detail, board and staff training, strategic planning, and nonprofit best practices.
California
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $1.4 million to thirty-six inaugural grantees of its LatinXCEL Fund — a three-year, $10 million initiative created to strengthen Silicon Valley's ecosystem of Latinx community leaders and nonprofits. The fund supports established and emerging Latinx-led and Latinx community-based organizations in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, with priority given to organizations focused on advancing racial equity and social justice whose overall leadership reflects the communities they serve.
Prontopia, a Santa Barbara- based human services startup, has announced the launch of a pilot program with Washington, D.C.-based AgeWell Global to accelerate recruitment and upskilling of paid caregivers in Santa Barbara County. Prontopia received funding from the Santa Barbara Foundation in collaboration with local area health and human services organizations.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation and philanthropist Gayle Benson have announced $1,117,000 in immediate assistance grants to local nonprofits leading disaster response. Matching funds were provided by Benson ($466,000) and the Dick J. Guidry Fund ($150,000). To date, the foundation has distributed nearly $1.8 million in three rounds of grants for Hurricane Ida relief. Since the foundation activated the Disaster Response & Restoration Fund, more than eleven hundred individuals have contributed more than $4 million. Match funding from the Dick J. Guidry Fund was awarded to assist nonprofits in South Lafourche.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced that it awarded a record $231 million in 2020 to more than forty-five hundred area nonprofits. As of the end of the year, the foundation also topped the $3 billion mark in assets under management. Since its establishment in 1943, the foundation has disbursed a total of $2.9 billion in grants.
The Greater Toledo Community Foundation has announced the appointments of Lauren Pietrek as its new philanthropic services officer and Milva Valenzuela Wagner as director of the Center for Nonprofit Resources. Pietrek most recently served as development and marketing director for Girls on the Run of the Rockies, while Wagner has worked with nonprofits for more than thirty years, most recently as director of development for Lott Industries.
Virginia
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia in Oakton has announced 2021 grants totaling nearly $19,000 through its Healthy Kids Grants program. This year, the program has awarded grants of up to $2,000 in support of ten public elementary and middle school programs that promote healthy lifestyles through increased exercise or improved nutrition. Recipients include Alexandria City Public Schools, Communities in Schools of NOVA Glasgow Middle School, Leesburg Elementary School, and Naomi L. Brooks Elementary.
