Connecticut
The Connecticut Community Foundation has announced the election of Tony Ciocca, Jessica Ocasio, and Christopher Rempfer to its board of trustees. Ciocca is managing director of a national investment consulting practice. Ocasio serves as an associate consultant in the Bureau of Educator Effectiveness and Professional Learning for the state’s Department of Education; created Annabella’s Angels, a Waterbury-based nonprofit that strives to provide support and raise awareness and education for pregnancy and infant loss families and medical professionals; and serves as the executive president of the Rivera Memorial Foundation. Rempferis a professor of English at Connecticut State Community College/Naugatuck Valley.
Florida
On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ian’s impact in the area, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation has announced that it awarded more than 200 grants totaling $3.5 million to address the initial effects and the ongoing rebuilding and recovery. Recipients included the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, Venice Theatre, Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Garden, and Children First.
The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has announced it is co-hosting a Meet the Funders event with Nonprofits First. Taking place on October 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the event will feature an expert panel and audience Q&A at the Center for Philanthropy in West Palm Beach.
Michigan
The Midland Area Community Foundation has announced third-quarter grants totaling nearly $822,000. Recipients of grants ranging from $8,000 to $125,000 include 2-1-1 Northeast Michigan, Cleveland Manor II, United Way of Midland County, and King’s Daughters and Sons of Midland.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced that the Big Table, an annual day of community-wide conversation designed to inspire authentic human connection and civic engagement, will be held on October 11. Dozens of public conversations will take place throughout the day on October 11, including at all 23 Columbus Metropolitan Libraries locations, seven YMCA of Central Ohio locations, and the Columbus Foundation. Virtual conversations also will be available to the public.
Pennsylvania
The Erie Community Foundation has announced that its LGBT Funds have issued a request for proposals. The funds will provide grants of up to $7,500 in support of projects that address various needs in the LGBTQ community, such as safe schools, youth homelessness, mental health, and family support and recognition. The deadline to apply is October 13.
South Carolina
The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry (CFL) and the Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) have announced the launch of the new data-driven Lowcountry Community Indicators. CFL and LCOG teamed up to develop the site, which focuses on Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties, following the positive reception of CFL’s Community Indicators Report and LCOG’s People and the Economy Report. The site is designed to offer relevant resources that help inform decision making, provide solutions to local issues, and promote regionalism and partnership while focusing on the community’s well-being.
Wisconsin
The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region in Appleton has announced that its David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund awarded grants totaling more than $2.5 million to 24 nonprofits provided 24 nonprofits. Recipients include the Door County Historical Society, Brown County Parks and Recreation, the National Railroad Museum, and Heckrodt Wetland Reserve.
