Community Foundation Update (11/15/14)
Connecticut
Fairfield County's Community Foundation has announced the election of Robert Eydt, Annie Burleigh, and Martha Olson to its board of directors. Edyt is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and has served on the boards of Rowayton United Methodist Church, the Stamford Hospital Foundation, and the Roton Point Association. A former teacher, Burleigh is a founding member of No Means No, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about sexual assault on college campuses, and has served as a committee member for the community foundation. Olson, a growth strategist, serves on the boards of SuperFutures and the Underfashion Club, both of which are dedicated to promoting education.
Iowa
The Waterloo-based Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has announced a $200,000 grant to the Friends of Hartman Reserve to remodel the nature center's Interpretive Center; and a $100,000 grant to the Waverly Area Veterans Post toward construction of a new veterans service facility after two of the three veterans facilities in the area suffered flood damage.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $200,177 to twenty-eight local nonprofits in the areas of the arts, community improvement, education, health and human services, and youth development. The foundation also is conducting a listening campaign called Envision Hutch to better understand the community's and county's needs.
Montana
The Whitefish Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $750,000 in 2014, including a total of $257,000 to seventy-four nonprofit organizations through its annual grant program and $493,000 from nine of its donor-advised funds.
Nebraska
The Kearney Area Community Foundation will sponsor its second annual giving day with the theme "Give Where You Live" on December 4. The community-wide event will benefit more than a hundred and twenty charitable causes and organizations in and around the Kearney area. Last year's twenty-four-hour event raised a total of $453,214 for ninety-nine nonprofits in the area.
The Omaha Community Foundation has announced the promotion of communications director Kali Baker and director of donor services Matt Darling to the position of vice president. Baker will lead efforts to develop the community indicator project and manage the team that delivers the foundation's grant programs and research and evaluation efforts. Darling will develop and oversee the team that delivers services for family foundations, corporate donors, and supporting organizations.
New Jersey
The Community Foundation of New Jersey has announced that Brendan Dougher has joined its board of directors. A managing partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dougher currently serves on the boards of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, United Way of New York City, Kings College, and the Foreign Policy Association; he also leads PricewaterhouseCoopers' involvement with the Partnership for New York City.
