California
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) has announced that the role of its general counsel, Chanthi Lune, has been expanded to include the title of senior vice president, operations. The appointment is not an internal promotion; Lune participated in a competitive executive search including external candidates. As senior vice president, she will oversee the Philanthropic Services division, which encompasses grants, gifts, scholarships, and consulting services.
Colorado
The Arvada-based Community First Foundation (CFF) has announced a $3.1 million gift to the Lutheran Medical Center in support of the Lutheran Medical Center Foundation’s Legacy Continues campaign. The gift will support an effort to replace the hospital’s current decades-old facility and help advance the health of people in Jefferson County and surrounding communities.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that its Impact 100 initiative has awarded $100,000 to Training Grounds, Inc. Impact 100, a women’s giving circle now in its 10th year, is a group of more than 100 local women who commit to giving $1,100 annually for the purpose of making a single transformative grant to a local nonprofit. Recipients use the grant to deepen their impact and expand their network of supporters.
Nebraska
The Omaha Community Foundation has announced that it will serve as the Pathways Community HUB for the Omaha metro area. The local program is part of a national initiative to create care coordination networks to serve under-resourced residents. CHI Health, Healthy Blue Nebraska, Nebraska Total Care, and United Healthcare are each contributing $250,000 to fund the HUB’s operations for the first two years. Following the Pathways Initiative HUB model, the Omaha Community Foundation will develop a sustainable network of community health workers—trained frontline public health workers who have a deep understanding of and connection to the community. The HUB will contract with agencies that these workers, who will identify at-risk individuals and connect them with medical, behavioral, and social services to remove barriers to health.
New York
Brooklyn Community Foundation has announced the appointment of Monique Nieves as its chief operating officer. Nieves, who has more than 30 years of experience in operations and budgeting in city government and the hospitality industry, will help manage the foundation’s growth while overseeing its ongoing operations to ensure the execution of its mission to mobilize community-led philanthropy.
The Central New York Community Foundation has announced that members of the former Westminster Presbyterian Church, which closed its doors recently after more than two centuries serving the northside of Syracuse, have established a field-of-interest fund at the foundation. The Westminster Presbyterian Northside Concerns Fund will begin grantmaking in spring 2023 with a focus on immediate community needs such as food pantries, reading programs, and support for neighborhood youth, enabling the former church to leave a lasting legacy of impact on the community.
North Carolina
The Community Foundation of Henderson County in Hendersonville has announced that nearly 250 community members attended its first in-person annual luncheon since 2019. The event featured highlights from the foundation’s past fiscal year, looked back at 40 years of the organization’s history, and recognized two local philanthropists with the presentation of the Marlow Philanthropic Catalyst Award and Sauer Charitable Leadership Award. The awards were presented to Dr. Steven Crane, family medicine practitioner and volunteer medical director for 20 years at the Free Clinics, and Jane Davis, who has served as a volunteer in the community for more than 20 years.
Wisconsin
The Community Foundation of the Fox Valley Region (CFFVR) has announced the creation of the New London Community Fund, a permanent endowment within the foundation, that will provide area residents an opportunity to give back and provide support for the betterment and growth of New London. Discussions about the fund began with CFFVR about 18 months ago, and its leaders are working to raise $40,000 in matching grants over two years to build an endowment fund. It needs to raise $20,000 from the community by April to get the first part of the match; the fund will then have next fall through April of 2024 to earn the remaining $20,000.
