Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced five grants totaling nearly $235,000 to assist deserving African-American and Latinx students struggling to overcome additional challenges that have emerged during 2020. To help students with the support needed to complete their studies, the foundation awarded grants to Asnuntuk Community College, Capital Community College, Goodwin University, Hartford Promise, and Manchester Community College. It is anticipated that the five grants will improve persistence and completion rates for more than three hundred and fifty low-income Black and Latinx students in the greater Hartford area and nearly two hundred Second Chance Pell students incarcerated in the Enfield area.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that its Impact 100 initiative has awarded a $100,000 grant to Eden House New Orleans. Impact 100, an eight-year-old giving circle, includes more than a hundred local women who give $1,100 a year for the purpose of making a single transformative grant to a local nonprofit. Since its inception, the group has granted out more than $1 million to nonprofits across the region.

Maine

The Aroostook County Action Program has received $17,000 from the Maine Community Foundation's COVID-19 Response Fund in support of families impacted by the pandemic, The County reports. The funds will help underwrite program expenses at the organization as it works to help families in the county struggling with basic needs during the pandemic.

Michigan

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation and United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region have announced the reactivation of their joint crisis relief grantmaking. As of November 18, the two organizations were making $913,854 available for emergency needs, and had awarded a total of $45,000 to the Kalamazoo Youth Development Network and Kalamazoo Public Schools.

North Carolina

United Way of Central Carolinas, in partnership with the Foundation for the Carolinas, has awarded a sixth round of grants totaling $4 million from its COVID-19 Response Fund to thirty-nine Mecklenburg County nonprofits, with the city and county each contributing $2 million to the effort. In this latest funding round, CARES Act guidelines and priorities set by the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County determined eligibility requirements and guided selections for the applicant pool. Since March, the fund has awarded nearly $22 million to nonprofits in Mecklenburg County working to assist those impacted by the pandemic.

Ohio

The George Gund and Cleveland foundations have announced that they are looking to hire a facilitator for the Greater Cleveland Racial Equity and Racial Justice Funding Collaborative. Building on the efforts of the Movement for Black Lives and in response to racial disparities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the collaborative will focus on efforts to address long-term systemic racism in both the community and policy, with the person hired for the facilitator role tasked with developing a framework and strategic focus for the collaborative's design and operations.

In recognition of its hundredth anniversary in 2021, the Dayton Foundation has announced the launch of 100 Gifts to the Community. Through the initiative, a hundred of the foundation's fund holders will award one-time grants in honor of the foundation's centennial to local nonprofits of their choice. Starting December 1 and ending Friday, September 24, 2021, a single gift will be announced on alternating weekdays during the noon broadcast of WHIO News Center 7.

Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Foundation has distributed $1.62 million in emergency coronavirus relief grants from Allegheny County to twenty-eight local human services agencies. In September, eighty-three nonprofits led by and serving Black, brown, Latinx, immigrant and refugee, and/or LGBTQIA communities were invited to apply to the county's Coronavirus Relief Fund. All nonprofits that applied for funding received a grant, which were distributed by November 4, to cover otherwise-unfunded COVID-related expenses incurred since March 1.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced that it will match every donation to Trinity Repertory Company from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve with a grant to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, up to a total of $60,000. The initiative is aimed at replacing the funds raised for the food bank every year by Trinity Rep with live performances of A Christmas Carol. At the end of each performance in years past, the actor playing Ebenezer Scrooge would step forward and ask the audience to donate to the food bank. Last year, audience members dropped more than $60,000 in collection buckets circulating through the audience, bringing total giving to more than $667,500 since the tradition began fifteen seasons ago.

South Carolina

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has announced grants totaling more than $211,500 to four local organizations as part of a twice-a-year competitive grants process. Grant recipients include the Antioch Education Center, Bluffton Jasper Volunteers in Medicine, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and Neighborhood Outreach Connection.

Washington, D.C.

The Greater Washington Community Foundation has announced that CEO Tonia Wellons has been named Nonprofit Leader of the Year by the Washington Business Journal.
