Community Foundation Update (11/29/14)

California

The Napa Valley Community Foundation will award up to $8 million through a second round of grants from its disaster relief fund to local businesses and homeowners who suffered property damage as a result of the August 24 earthquake that rattled the area, the Napa Valley Register reports. To be eligible for a grant, business owners and homeowners will need to show that they have applied for federal aid, if they are eligible to do so. Established with a $10 million lead gift from Napa Valley Vintners, the fund has awarded financial assistance to some five hundred households in the area, with an average of $1,000 per household.

Connecticut

The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut in Torrington has announced that it is compiling information about organizations that distribute collected food to individuals and families in the foundation's twenty-town service area. The information will be made available to families in need and will serve to highlight opportunities for additional donations of food.

Massachusetts

The Boston Foundation has announced the winners of its Collaborate Boston competition. Breakfast IV Brothers, the Fairmount Arts Collaboration, Fields Corner Shines, and Seeds of Change Bulk Food Buy-In Market will each receive grants valued at $25,000 in funding and/or technical assistance to continue addressing a range of issues.

Missouri

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks in Springfield has announced that it will provide $100,000 in grants to eighteen area nonprofit agencies if they can match the funds by February 2, 2015. The agencies were selected for their potential to move the needle on "red-flag" issues identified in the 2013 Community Focus Report for Springfield-Greene County. Established in 2008, the Community Response Challenge Grant program provides operating funds to help area nonprofits sustain their existing programs as they continue to recover from the Great Recession.
