California

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced that the Caltrain Holiday Train will make nine stops on December 1 and 2 to raise funds to address needs in the region. Decorated with approximately seventy-five thousand lights, the Holiday Train will make nine twenty-minute stops, with families able to enjoy live, free entertainment at each stop prior to its arrival. Since the event's debut in 2001, Bay Area residents have brought more than fifty thousand toys to Caltrain stations.

Indiana

The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced the winners of the 2018 Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship. Established in 2004 by the Efroymson Family Fund, the fellowship provides $25,000 to five artists from the Midwest in support of their continued artistic development. This year’s fellows are Bethany Collins, Tirtza Even, José Carlos Teixeira, Alexa Horochowski, and Andres Hernandez.

Kentucky

The Central Kentucky Community Foundation in Elizabethtown has added Tehmina Haider, Matthew Hess, and Cliff Fowler to its board of directors, the News Enterprise reports.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that eighteen nonprofit executive directors have completed its organizational effectiveness program. Funded by Chevron, the program helps nonprofit officials sharpen their skills in key areas such as leadership, financial management, supervision, and board governance.

Massachusetts

The Cape Cod Foundation has announced a multiyear investment of $150,000 in support of Y Achievers, a youth development program offered by the YMCA Cape Cod. Focused on helping youth between the ages of 12 and 18 gain confidence and develop postsecondary and career goals, the program provides opportunities for participants — most of whom would be the first in their families to go on to postsecondary education — to meet weekly with caring, responsible adults to talk about academics, college, and life beyond high school.

Michigan

The Glacier Hills Legacy Fund at the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $2.5 million to organizations working to assist seniors in Washtenaw County. The fund awarded grants of $20,000 to ten finalists in the Vital Seniors: A Community Innovation Competition and followed that up with prizes ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 to five of the organizations — Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley ($500,000); Area Agency on Aging 1-B ($250,000); Chelsea Senior Center (two prizes totaling $150,000); and Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County (two prizes totaling $150,000).

New Mexico

As a result of its move to a new location, the Taos Community Foundation has seen an uptick in "walk-in" traffic, including Taos residents interested in learning more about legacy giving. In response, the foundation has revived the Taos Foundation for Property Gifts, a separate 501(c)(3) organization that handles contributions of real estate and other properties. Earlier this year, the foundation was gifted the estate of a local art collector, Clark Funk, who had pre-designated organizations he wished to benefit from the estate, including a museum that received his art collection. At closing, the estate, which was valued $410,000, will be transferred to TCF and the newly formed Funk Family Legacy Fund, which will award grants at the foundation’s discretion based on recommendations from an existing grants advisory group.

North Carolina

The Currituck-Dare Community Foundation and Currituck-Dare Women's Fund, both affiliates of the North Carolina Community Foundation, have awarded grants totaling more than $25,000 in support of organizations serving Currituck and Dare counties, the Outer Banks Voice reports. Recipients include Albemarle Hopeline, the Autism Society of North Carolina, the Outer Banks Hotline, and Food for Thought.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced nearly $480,000 in grants to animal welfare groups across the state. Awarded through the foundation's Program for Animal Welfare, the grants will fund low-cost vet care for the pets of low-income owners, raptor rehabilitation, and a coyote education campaign, among other programs. Recipients of the grants include the Potter League for Animals, Foster Parrots, Friends of Animals in Need, and the Mystic Aquarium.
