Community Foundation Update (12/04/2021)
Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation has announced grants and scholarships totaling nearly $29.3 million for the second quarter of its fiscal year. Between July and September, the foundation and its six affiliates across the state awarded funds in support of five strategic areas: Health Innovations ($14.2 million), Community Improvement and Development ($2.1 million), Environment and Sustainability ($331,018), Arts and Culture ($966,204), and Quality Education ($6.8 million). Recipients include UMOM New Day Centers, the Phoenix Zoo, Musicians on Call, and the Million Dollar Teacher Project.
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that it awarded an additional $50,000 in COVID-19 relief funding in November in support of rural nonprofits addressing food insecurity. Recipients include Arivaca Human Resources, Crossroads Mission, Our Neighbors Food and Pantry, and the Tombstone Food Bank.
Colorado
The Aspen Community Foundation in Basalt has announced grants totaling $375,000 to twenty-five nonprofits serving communities from Aspen to Parachute in the areas of youth success and human services. Recipients include Access AfterSchool, the Buddy Program, River Bridge Regional Center, and Summit54.
Florida
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice has announced that it is accepting applications for its in-person Winter Gulf Coast Board Institute, which will be held in February. The program is delivered through the foundation’s Invest in Incredible consultants to new and veteran nonprofit board members in the region. The deadline to apply for the governance training series is Sunday, December 12.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced awards totaling $43,310 to seven nonprofit organizations in the latest round of its 2021 Fund for Reno County grant cycle. Recipients include Abundant Life Childcare and Preschool, Girls on the Run Heart of Kansas, the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra, and Buhler Public Library.
New Mexico
The Los Alamos Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $27,000 as well as the creation of two endowments. The Pajarito Plateau Heritage Preservation Endowment will fund historic preservation efforts of the Homestead Era on the Pajarito plateau, while another endowment was established to assist the Los Alamos Little Theatre.
Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Foundation has announced grants totaling $660,000 aimed at strengthening nonprofits led by people of color. Eleven organizations will each receive $60,000 over two years to co-create a learning curriculum, which will cover topics such as good governance, fundraising, communications planning, and financial planning. In addition, consultants of color will provide workshops and technical assistance. Recipients include the Movement Ground Farm, Mixed Magic Theatre, Sankofa Community Connection, and Women’s Refugee Care.
Texas
The Permian Basin Area Foundation in Midland has awarded $1.917 million to nonprofit organizations serving West Texans during its fall grant cycle. Recipients include the Aphasia Center of West Texas, Basin Dream Centers for Orphans, Hospice of Midland, and Odessa Arts.
