Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that its Hellene Henrickson Fund of the Lutheran Church of the Foothills awarded grants totaling $90,000 to six nonprofits working to address food insecurity. Recipients include the Patagonia Youth Enrichment Center, the Inn of Southern Arizona, Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network, and Youth on Their Own.
California
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation has announced forty grants totaling $312,000 in support of nonprofits that are addressing the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and building programs and partnerships to foster the long-term resilience of the area. Recipients include the Asian Community Center of Sacramento Valley, Snowline Hospice, Advance Peace, and the Sacramento Theatre Company.
Massachusetts
The SouthCoast Community Foundation in New Bedford has announced that its Henry H. Crapo Fund awarded grants totaling $160,000 to fifteen organizations. Recipients include Gnome Surf, NorthStar Learning Centers, the New Bedford Light, and YMCA Southcoast.
The Boston Foundation has announced that Danielle Kim has been named director of the Asian Community Fund, effective December 20. She currently serves as director of public policy at the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced grants totaling $300,000 in support of local efforts to address climate change. Awarded through the Minneapolis Climate Action and Racial Equity Fund, which is a partnership between the foundation, the City of Minneapolis, and the McKnight Foundation, the grants include support for the Lake Street Council, the Minneapolis American Indian Center, Sabathani Community Center, and the Women’s Environmental Institute.
Ohio
The Bath Community Fund, an affiliate of the Akron Community Foundation, has announced twenty-one grants totaling $50,000 to nonprofit organizations serving Bath Township. The latest round of grants represents the fund’s largest amount awarded in a single year and boosts its cumulative grantmaking total since it was established in 2014 to more than $150,000. This year’s record total was made possible in part by an anonymous donor who contributed $17,000. Recipients include Akron Symphonic Winds, Bath Volunteers for Service, Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio, and the Summit County Astronomy Club.
Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Foundation has elected Al Kurose as chair of its board of directors, effective January 1. The president and CEO of Coastal Medical succeeds Polly Wall.
Tennessee
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced grants totaling more than $2.6 million to nearly four hundred and fifty local nonprofits. Nearly a quarter of the funding was awarded in support of human services, 17 percent in support of the arts and humanities, 15 percent toward educational groups, and 12 percent in support of animal welfare.
The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga has appointed Caroline Von Kessler as its first vice president of philanthropy. Von Kessler most recently served as director of development for the College of Health, Education, and Professional Studies and director of corporate and foundation relations for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Texas
The Austin Community Foundation has received a gift of cryptocurrency valued at $1.2 million, the Austin American-Statesman reports. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, saw their investment appreciate from a few dollars per unit to more than $230 per unit. In accordance with its policies, the foundation immediately converted the donation into cash by selling it through Giving Block.
