Alabama

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, REV Birmingham, and the City of Birmingham have announced funding for future downtown lighting projects, including the fourteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth street underpasses. Scheduled to come online in early 2014, each new light-art installation will have its own unique identity and is intended to activate underused public space.

California

The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, is launching a new membership model designed to boost its grantmaking and $1.2 million endowment, thePomerado News reports. Donors who give $500 annually to the foundation will receive special benefits and invitations to members-only events, with half of each donation earmarked for the endowment and the other half distributed in the form of grants.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced that it is partnering with the Belle Haven Community Development Fund to provide a voice for the Belle Haven neighborhood in Menlo Park. The fund seeks to work with other community-based organizations to build community capacity, raise community awareness, and create collaborative projects.

Kansas

The Topeka Community Foundation has elected Tara Dimick, Cheryl Kingfisher, Doug Sterbenz, and Julie Swift to three-year terms on its board of directors. In addition, Shelly Buhler was elected to a second three-year term.

Michigan

The Charlevoix County Community Foundation in East Jordan has announced $185,869 in grants, including $10,800 to the North Central Michigan College Foundation, $9,033 to the Beaver Island Association, $5,335 to the Boyne Valley Food Pantry, and $3,500 to the Disability Network.

New York

The New York Community Trust has announced nine grants totaling nearly $850,000 from its Hive Digital Media Learning Fund to help launch and expand afterschool programs in the five boroughs of New York City. Recipients include Global Kids, LAMP (Learning About Multimedia Project), MOUSE, and the YMCA of Greater New York.

Ohio

The Columbus Foundation has announced seven grants totaling $79,350 through the Joseph A. Jeffrey Endowment Fund in support of local beautification projects. The grants will be used to plant trees, refurbish streetscapes, and support beautification initiatives and programs in central Ohio. Recipients include the Italian Village Society, the Ohio Historical Society, Homeport, and the Jefferson Center for Learning and the Arts.

Pennsylvania

The Lancaster County Community Foundation has announced $810,000 in grants to twenty community benefit organizations as part of its Ah-Ha Project. The grants will support a range of programs, including affordable housing, access to health and dental care, support for the local bilingual workforce, and services for at-risk students.

Washington

The Seattle Foundation has announced that Norman Rice will retire as president and CEO of the foundation next year. A former mayor of Seattle, Rice joined the foundation in 2009 and will continue to serve as president until his successor is chosen.
