Community Foundation Update (12/17/16)
California
The Ramona Community Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, has announced ten grants totaling $39,700 to Ramona-area nonprofits. Recipients include Art Reach, Girls on the Run San Diego, the Ramona Junior Fair, and Heart and Hooves Therapy.
The Regional Water Management Foundation, a subsidiary of the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County in Aptos, has named Darcy Pruitt as senior planner in support of the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency, a collaborative of local municipalities and water districts created earlier this year. Employed by the community foundation through its water management foundation, Pruitt will lead the development of a groundwater sustainability plan for the mid-county basin.
Illinois
The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley in Aurora has announced a $15,000 grant to Wayside Cross Ministries, a nonprofit Christian organization. The grant will be used to pay for a new roof for the Lifespring Center, a transitional shelter for women.
Indiana
The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships to thirteen students in Marion and Hamilton counties. The recipients of the four-year, full-tuition scholarships were nominated by interview committees at the Indianapolis Foundation, a CICF affiliate serving Marion County, and the Legacy Fund, a CICF affiliate serving Hamilton County.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that its Organizational Effectiveness Initiative, with support from JPMorgan Chase, is partnering with the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations and CompassPoint Nonprofit Services on a board governance series. The series is designed for board members, executive directors, and senior staff who are interested in deepening their understanding of nonprofit governance and better aligning the work of boards so as to maximize their impact. In addition to attending in-person sessions — which will comprise a blend of expert training and peer learning — participants will have access to CompassPoint's board toolkit, including a set of sample templates and tools for creating or updating a board member handbook.
Massachusetts
The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced fourth-quarter grants totaling $665,000 in support of the arts, civic engagement and voluntarism, education, the environment, and elder support. Recipients include the Rebuilding Fund, which was awarded a $10,000 grant to help families who lost their homes in the December 3 Berkshire Street neighborhood fire, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Innovators 4 Purpose, and the Green Streets Initiative.
New York
The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling $6.2 million to fifty organizations, boosting its total grantmaking for 2016 to $47 million. Recipients include Access-A-Ride, the Citizens Budget Commission, the New Teacher Center, and Legal Services NYC.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced that one of its affiliates, the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation, has awarded $81,038 in grants to twenty-four public schools in rural areas of the state. Established in 1995, the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation has awarded nearly $1 million through two grant programs to improve the quality of life in designated rural Oklahoma communities.
Pennsylvania
YOUTHadelphia, the Youth in Philanthropy Committee of the Philadelphia Foundation's Fund for Children, has announced grants totaling $47,500 to five nonprofits. The grants will address areas that the teen committee members determined are the city’s most pressing concerns for teens: minority education and empowerment, sexual awareness and teen parenting, and young women’s empowerment. The recipients are Asian Americans United, the Business Center for Entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise, the Youth Outreach Adolescent Community Awareness Project, Youth Service, and Girls Rock Philly.
