California
The San Diego Foundation has announced a $1 million commitment in support of the city's Plaza de Panama proposal to increase access, enhance green space, and improve safety at Balboa Park. Funding comes from the foundation's Balboa Park Endowment. The Balboa Park Restoration Initiative will transform the park's Plaza de Panama into a premier public space featuring more than six acres of restored car-free space and improved access and opportunities for community members and visitors.
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced the five winners of its 2016 Corporate Responsibility Impact Awards. Tableau Software was named Company of the Year, while Partnership of the Year was awarded to Charles Schwab and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In addition, Cammie Erickson, who leads LinkedIn's employee engagement programs, was named Emerging Practitioner of the Year, Gisela Bushey received the Practitioner of the Year award for her work with SanDisk, and Davis Smith of Cotopaxi received the CEO of the Year award.
Colorado
The Community Foundation Boulder County has announced a $300,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation in support of its Boulder County Health Improvement Collaborative, which will use the funding to recruit specialist providers willing to treat Medicaid and uninsured patients; create a scalable centralized online hub to share an up-to-date list of providers and patient slots; and streamline the referral system for providers and care coordinators.
Indiana
The Ripley County Community Foundation in Batesville has awarded eleven grants totaling more than $40,000, the Batesville Herald Tribune reports. Recipients include the Southeastern YMCA, Lifetime Resources, the South Ripley Community School Corp., and the Osgood Public Library.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation has opened its new state-of-the-art Center for Philanthropy, Biz New Orleans reports. In addition to the foundation, the $13 million, 22,000-square-foot building will house the New Orleans office of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and, in early 2017, a coffee shop.
Massachusetts
The HousingUs initiative of the Sheffield-based Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $30,000, BusinessWest reports. The grants to five lead organizations will enable them to plan and convene outreach activities that bring residents together to explore the interrelated issues of affordable housing, economic development, and town-center vitality. Recipients of the grants include the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, the Housing Committee of Hillsdale, Hudson River Housing, Philmont Beautification, and the Salisbury Affordable Housing Commission.
The Boston Foundation has announced the 2016 winners of its Collaborate Boston competition. Launched in 2013, Collaborate Boston awards grants of $100,000 to promising collaborations focused on achieving specific outcomes for the people and/or places that make up metro-area communities and that demonstrate strong leadership. This year's winners are Immigrant Youth Leadership, a collaboration of the Center to Support Immigrant Organizing, African Community Economic Development of New England, and Margarita Muñiz Academy; the Youth Police Unity Project, a collaboration of the Center for Teen Empowerment, the Boston Police Department, and the Somerville Police Department; Nomadic Civic Culture, a collaboration of the Urbano Project, CJET Consulting, and Urban Edge; and Beat 58 Personal Training Studio, a collaboration of Level Ground Mixed Martial Arts, HoodFit, and ACCEPT Personal Training School.
New York
The Westchester Community Foundation, the Hartsdale-based affiliate of the New York Community Trust, has announced October grants totaling $824,000. Recipients include Nonprofit Westchester, the Bedford 2020 Coalition, Rye Arts Center, and El Centro Hispano.
The Oswego County Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $27,286 to eleven local nonprofits, Oswego County Today reports. Recipients include the Annie Porter Ainsworth Memorial Library, Friends of Fulton Parks, the CNY Arts Center, and the Fulton Jazz Festival.
Ohio
The Cleveland Foundation has announced a $100,000 grant to the Group Plan Commission in support of community programming for Cleveland Foundation Centennial Plaza at Public Square. In 2014, the foundation awarded $8 million to help transform Public Square into a more attractive and user-friendly space.
Oklahoma
The Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, has announced $81,038 in grants through its Classroom Enhancement Grant program to twenty-four public schools in rural Oklahoma. The grants will be used to enhance learning opportunities for students in the areas of science, literacy, and the arts and humanities.
Texas
The Communities Foundation of Texas in Dallas has announced David J. Scullin as its new president and CEO, effective January 2017. Scullin will succeed Brent E. Christopher, who led CFT after nearly eleven years.
