California

The Solano Community Foundation has announced a grant to the Solano County Library Foundation to support the purchase of eight Early Literacy Stations — one for each of the library's branches — from the AWE company. Designed for children between the ages of 2 and 8, the units feature a touch screen, a color-coded keyboard, and a child-sized mouse and will help children who use them become familiar with touch-screen technology and more comfortable when they encounter it in school.

The San Diego Foundation has announced that its affiliate in Rancho Bernardo has awarded grants totaling $70,578 to nineteen organizations working to enhance the quality of life in the community. Recipients include the Burn Institute, which will use its $5,000 grant to boost its support for three programs: Fire Safe Kids, Senior Fire Safety and Smoke Alarm, and Living With Wildfire.

Connecticut

The Connecticut Community Foundation in Waterbury has announced grants totaling nearly $340,000 in support of organizations working in the areas of arts and youth, leadership, literacy, nonprofit assistance, services for older adult, health, and travel. Recipients include the Audubon Center, the KidsPlay Children's Museum, the Mattatuck Historical Society, and Robotics and Beyond. In addition, the foundation awarded $18,000 in sponsorship grants to fifteen organizations. For the year, CCF awarded a total of nearly $4 million in grants and scholarships.

The Branford Community Foundation has announced a $10,000 general operating grant to the Community Dining Room to provide food and other basic needs to low-income individuals and families over the holidays.

Kentucky

The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that its Fund for Louisville, in partnership with the Lift a Life Foundation, the James Graham Brown Foundation, and an anonymous donor, has awarded more than $300,000 in capacity-building grants to twenty local nonprofit organizations. Intended to enhance the ability of Louisville nonprofits to achieve their mission, operate more effectively, and build long-term sustainability, CFL capacity-building grants can be used to support board assessment and development, marketing and communications, collaboration and collective impact efforts, pilot/demonstration projects, evaluation initiatives, staff development and training, and technology upgrades.

Michigan

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has awarded a second round of Nonprofit Capacity Training grants for the staff of nonprofit organizations working to revitalize Detroit and announced that the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is investing an additional $115,000 in the program, which will provide twenty-three organizations with stipends of up to $5,000 for professional development, trainings, and conference fees.

North Carolina

The North Carolina Community Foundation, which was created twenty-seven years ago and currently holds more than $237 million in assets, has announced that it has topped $101 million in lifetime grantmaking.

The Salisbury Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Foundation for the Carolinas, has announced grants totaling $125,000 to thirty-one organizations. Recipients include Capstone Recovery Center, Communities in Schools of Rowan County, the Piedmont Players Theatre, and Rowan Vocational Opportunities.
