California

The San Francisco Foundation has named Fred Blackwell as its new CEO. Blackwell most recently served as city administrator for his native Oakland.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced a total of $768,407 in grants to help teachers in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties develop their mathematics instruction skills. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 were awarded to ten school districts and nonprofit organizations to provide professional development to nearly four hundred middle school teachers in the two-county region.

Iowa

The Elma Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Waterloo-based Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, has announced the creation of the Clint and Betty Richards Charitable Fund.

Kansas

The Central Kansas Community Foundation in Newton has announced a formal partnership and affiliation with the Elk County Community Foundation, the Prairie Star reports. The foundation has been serving the greater Elk County area since 2002 and has been looking to expand its scope. In becoming CKCF's eighteenth affiliate, ECCF will be able to focus its attention on building local relationships while CKCF handles many of its back-office functions.

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced the launch of its GiveSmartOKC competition. Organizations are invited to publish a profile at GiveSmartOKC.org in one of two categories: annual income of less than $1 million, and annual income of $1 million or more. Grants of $500 will be awarded to organizations in each category with the most informative profile, the most unique visitors to their profile, and the most effective social media efforts.

Washington

The Greater Everett Community Foundation has established an Oso Emergency Fund to provide support for victims of the mudslide in Oso and Darrington that killed at least twenty-nine people. Consistent with the foundation’s focus on sustainable solutions, the fund will support long-term recovery and community rebuilding efforts. The foundation will work in partnership with local government entities, nonprofits, and other community organizations to identify the best way to support the individuals and communities affected by the disaster, with distributions to be overseen by a committee of volunteers and foundation staff.

Wisconsin

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has announced a grant of $130,000 to Marquette University in support of its summer reading project, which supports teacher training for forty Milwaukee educators, eleven of whom will teach in the program this summer. The foundation has helped to fund the program since it was established in 2010.
