Community Foundation Update (06/04/2022)
Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona has announced that its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer (LGBTQ+) Alliance Fund awarded grants totaling $103,500 to 12 nonprofits in support of innovative programs that benefit the LGBTQ+ community in the region. The largest annual grant distribution in the fund’s 23-year history represents a 25 percent increase from 2021. Recipients include BICAS, Chicanos Por La Causa, Our Family Services, and the Splinter Art and Community Fund.
Connecticut
The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut in New London has announced grants totaling $42,800 to organizations working in the areas of youth empowerment, basic needs and rights, the environment, and animal welfare. Recipients include Catholic Charities, Covenant Soup Kitchen, Grow Windham, and Windham Region No Freeze Project.
Florida
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice has announced the promotion of Kelly Borgia to strategic engagement manager. Since 2018, she has served as a philanthropic coordinator and administrator. In addition, Sasha Hausman Pyatte has joined the foundation as a philanthropic coordinator and administrator, and Priscilla Boward will serve as a philanthropic administrator.
Indiana
The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that its Hamilton County affiliate awarded grants totaling $146,000, including $123,000 in support of capacity building, expansion, projects, and initiatives of nonprofits in the county that serve at least one of the three community leadership pillars of the foundation and $23,000 through the LINK Youth Advisory Council. Recipients include Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources, Girls on the Run Central Indiana, Milk Bank, and the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced grants totaling nearly $57,000 through its Fund for Reno County in support of seven nonprofit organizations. Recipients include the Dillon Nature Center, Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation, Reno County Boxing Academy, and Youthrive.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced the appointment of Trisha Finnegan as its president and CEO. She succeeds Nancy B. Anthony, who led the foundation for 37 years. Finnegan most recently served as chief strategy officer and senior vice president at the Community Foundation of Louisville.
West Virginia
The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation has announced a $9,000 grant in support of the Parkersburg Art Center. The funding will be used to install a fire-suppression system in the center, which now houses a market where artists can sell their work. The market has become the home of Riverside Artists, a long-standing artists’ co-op in Marietta, which lost its lease in December 2021.
