Grand prizes were awarded to the nonprofits that attracted the greatest number of new donors (Elm City Internationals, $10,000; Booker T. Washington Academy, $5,000; Inextricably Bound Community Development Corporation, $3,000) and the greatest number of donors (New Haven Land Trust, $15,000; Music Haven, $5,000; Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, $3,000). The New Hampshire Community Foundation has announced that Heather Drolet has been named the 2017 recipient of the Christa McAuliffe Sabbatical. Created in honor of the Concord High School teacher who perished on the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986 and administered by the foundation, the honor gives an exemplary New Hampshire teacher a year off with pay and a materials budget to bring a great educational idea to fruition. Drolet, a technologist at the Christ McAuliffe School in Concord, will use the year to develop NH Kids Code, a project aimed at inspiring elementary school students — especially girls — to explore computer science while honing "the four Cs:" critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. Once it has been developed, Drolet will bring the project, a week at a time, to fifth-grade classrooms at twenty-five elementary schools around the state, during which kids will develop their own mobile app related to something they are studying.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced that it recently broke ground on a $4.1 million building-expansion project. Featuring new meeting rooms, private offices, and additional work space and storage, the three-floor structure will adjoin the south end of the foundation’s existing building and will increase the meeting space available to charitable organizations in the area. The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2018.
