Pennsylvania
The Erie Community Foundation has announced that its board of trustees has approved a resolution in support of the June 2017 "Proposal for the Establishment of a Public Community College in Erie, Pennsylvania," as prepared by Empower Erie. Also known as the "Erie Community College Plan and Application," the proposal calls for the new community college to be supported by gaming revenues, instead of through an increase in property taxes. "In addition to this plan not raising taxes on Erie County homeowners, research shows that when there is an increase in education, there is an increase in per capita income," said ECF president Mike Batchelor. "Currently, 37 percent of Erie's population does not have a college degree, and the national number is 18 percent. As additional education becomes the norm, Erie becomes more attractive to new businesses, which increases the tax base and increases property values."
South Carolina
