The Earthshot Prize has announced the winners of its third annual global competition to discover and help scale solutions that put the world on a trajectory toward a stable climate by 2030.

The program was established by the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales (Prince William and Princess Catherine of the United Kingdom) to find and develop solutions to challenges facing our planet. The five organizations selected as winners of the 2023 prize from among 15 finalists—out of more than 1,100 applicants—will each receive £1 million ($1.22 million). All finalists will receive year-long mentoring, resources, and technical support that includes access to the Earthshot Prize network of businesses, investors, donors, climate experts, and organizations committed to climate action.

This year’s winners include Acción Andina, which supports a grassroots effort across South America working to protect Andean forest ecosystems; GRST, which develops clean recyclable lithium-ion batteries; WildAid’s marine program, which works to end illegal fishing and strengthen ocean conservation; S4S Technologies, which builds solar-powered farm equipment to reduce food waste and preserve crops; and Boomitra, which connects farmers to a carbon-credit marketplace to boost income.

“The light of optimism is burning bright in our Earthshot finalists,” said Prince William at a ceremony in Singapore. “Our winners and all our finalists remind us that, no matter where you are on our planet, the spirit of ingenuity and the ability to inspire change surrounds us all.”
