Ethel Walker School receives $25 million gift from anonymous donor
The Ethel Walker School, a girls’ school in Simsbury, Connecticut, has announced a $25 million gift from an alumna who wishes to remain anonymous.
The largest gift in Walker’s 111-year history will support the school’s endowment and capital projects. With a three-year strategic plan under way and a campus master plan focused on the sustainable use of existing buildings and enhanced outdoor spaces coupled with new construction, the school will be adding residence hall space.
“This gift is a statement about the confidence that this donor has in our school,” said head of school Meera Viswanathan. “This donor’s generous support allows us to grow our endowment significantly and assists us in undertaking transformative capital projects to enhance the experience of students and faculty, and the school’s already beautiful campus.”
“Under Meera’s leadership, Walker’s has undergone a metamorphosis,” said alumna and board chair Katherine O’Brien Rohn. “This gift supports our belief that girls can transcend and disrupt a gendered mindset by providing an environment that is specifically designed for girls where they can flourish and excel.”
