Foundations, corporations providing support for Ukraine (04/24/2022)

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced a $500,000 contribution to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in support of an effort to help researchers who are being forced to flee Ukraine. The NAS’ Scientists and Engineers in Exile or Displaced (SEED) program is working to help scientists and engineers relocate and continue their work in Poland and other neighboring countries. In addition, the SEED program aims to ensure that Ukrainian science will be better positioned to be restored after the war ends. According to ACS, keeping the affected researchers engaged in their work and connected to the international science community helps the world continue to benefit from their ideas and discoveries. 

Direct Relief has announced grants totaling more than $12 million to nine organizations assisting refugees from Ukraine. The grant funding adds to the more than 508,000 pounds (230,425 kg) of direct medical aid provided by Direct Relief since February 24, 2022, when Russia first invaded Ukraine, to groups helping refugees, internally displaced persons, and others affected by the ongoing crisis. A total of $10 million has been provided in direct assistance to Ukrainian refugees through a joint program between Direct Relief and Pelion, the largest healthcare company in Poland. Other recipients include Charity Fund Modern Village ($250,000), the Ukrainian Diabetes Federation ($150,000), Project Joint Guardian ($50,000), and the Society for Critical Care Medicine ($750,000).

EXANTE, a global wealth tech company, has announced a $1 million gift in support of UNICEF’s emergency response efforts to assist vulnerable children and families impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine, as well as those who have fled to neighboring countries.

Goldman Sachs has announced that a $3.6 million contribution through Goldman Sachs Gives to assist people fleeing Ukraine. The contribution will bolster an initiative launched by Welcome.US to mobilize 100,000 Americans to sponsor people fleeing the war in Ukraine and seeking refuge in the United States. The contribution is in addition to $3 million pledged by Goldman Sachs and its employees in support of Ukraine relief efforts to date.

Texas Children’s Hospital has announced a strategic regional and international initiative to address the humanitarian and medical needs of the people of Ukraine. During the week of April 18, Texas Children’s volunteers and staff collected much-needed hygiene items for children and women for overseas delivery to Ukrainian refugees in neighboring Romania. Texas Children’s Hospital will send care packages with decorated cards and letters, handcrafted by its patients and families to Ukrainian refugee families.
