GAR Foundation Awards $1.2 Million to Akron Nonprofits

The GAR Foundation in Akron, Ohio, has awarded grants totaling more than $1.2 million to twenty-two nonprofit organizations in the region, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Third-quarter grant recipients include the United Way of Summit County, which was awarded $450,000 toward its 2012-13 fundraising campaign; BVU: the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, which received $130,000 in support of the Knight/GAR Nonprofit Initiative Fund; the Greater Akron Musical Association, which was awarded $85,000 in general support; and Archbishop Hoban High School, which received $50,000 for scholarships.

The foundation also awarded $70,000 to the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority for early childhood initiatives; $50,000 to the University of Akron Foundation in support of its Rising to the Occasion initiative; $25,000 to Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet for the Reach Out and Dance program; and $15,000 to the Jewish Family Service of Akron in support of its senior care management program.
