The George Gund Foundation in Cleveland has announced fifty-nine grants totaling more than $4.1 million to Ohio nonprofits.

Grants include a total of $649,000 to support the creation of two new Cleveland Metropolitan School District high schools. Bard High School Early College, the product of a partnership between CMSD and Bard College, will enable students to take college-level classes and graduate from high school with an associate's degree from Bard in addition to their diploma. The second school, the Cleveland High School of Digital Arts, is the product of a partnership between CMSD and the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning and will open in a downtown location in the fall with a class of ninth-graders.

In addition, the foundation awarded $125,000 to the MetroHealth System to pilot a mobile, school-based health clinic at Cleveland's Lincoln West High School; it is hoped the program will lead to a public-private partnership that eventually includes all schools in the district.

The foundation also awarded $150,000 to the Western Reserve Historical Society for the restoration and installation of the Euclid Beach Carousel at the society’s University Circle headquarters; $100,000 over two years to the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition; $250,000 over two years to Environmental Health Watch in support of its Clean Air Campaign and general operations; $250,000 to the Downtown Cleveland Alliance; $250,000 to the Musical Theater Project in support of new collaborations; $100,000 to the Franklin County Historical Society; and $75,000 to Public Interest Projects in support of the National Campaign to Reform State Juvenile Justice Systems.
