The George School, a private Quaker boarding school in Newtown, Pennsylvania, has announced a $17.75 million gift from an anonymous George School family.

The gift will be directed to the school’s travel learning, extracurricular, and leadership development programs with the goal of providing a more financially equitable experience for students. Founded in 1893, the school annually awards $10 million in financial aid, a quarter of its operating budget, the Philadelphia Business Journal reports. Half the student body receives financial assistance, and 40 percent of students identify as people of color.

“We are tremendously excited and deeply grateful,” said head of school Justin Brandon. “This generous gift will serve as a key step in supporting the integration of our co-curricular student opportunities as consistent, equitable, and deep parts of our learning environment.”
