Ukraine’s Ministry of Health has announced $165 million in grants from the Geneva-based Global Fund in support of the country’s ongoing response to epidemics of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS.

The Global Fund—an international partnership to leverage public and private philanthropic funding to address HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria—will distribute the funds over three years as part of its program addressing the challenges and disruptions to Ukraine’s health system caused by Russia’s invasion in 2021. According to the Global Fund, previous funding between 2021 and 2023 totaled nearly $190 million and included support of efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Global Fund’s philanthropic supporters include the AIDS Healthcare, Bill & Melinda Gates, Children’s Investment Fund, Rockefeller, Skoll, and Tahir foundations and (RED).

“The full-scale war presented many challenges to our medical system,” said Ukraine minister of health Viktor Lyashko. “Thanks to the support and active involvement of international partners, even in such difficult conditions, we have the opportunity to continue the implementation of important programs.”
