Google commits $4 million for equitable LGBTQ+ recovery
Google has announced commitments totaling $4 million in support of building an inclusive and equitable COVID-19 recovery for the LGBTQ+ community.
The commitment includes $2 million to the COVID-19 Global LGBTIQ Emergency Fund at OutRight Action International, which over the next year will provide resources such as food, shelter, and job training to a hundred organizations across more than sixty countries, and support for frontline LGBTQ+ workers in North America. Initial fund recipients include the Transgender Law Center in the United States, Lesbian Organization against Violence and Inequality in the Philippines, and Casa das Pretas-Coisa de Mulher in Brazil. In addition, Google pledged $1 million in Ad Grants in support of OutRight’s work and another $1 million in Ad Grants in support of the Transgender Law Center and the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund.
"This past year, the need for belonging has become more important than ever," wrote Juan Rajlin, treasurer and co-global executive sponsor of PRIDE at Google, in a blog post. "The pandemic has separated us from loved ones and communities and caused significant loss for many. It is abundantly clear that we need an inclusive and equitable recovery."
