Habitat for Humanity of Collier County (HHCC) has received a $25 million grant from the Schoen Foundation in Naples, Florida, to support the development of affordable housing for the “next thousand families,” Coastal Breeze News reports.

The award from the foundation—established in 1993 by William J. Schoen, who died in 2023—is described as among the area’s “largest private donations to affordable housing.” The funding will bolster HHCC infrastructure investments and land and building material purchases, as well as address increasing site preparation and construction costs. According to HHCC, the grant comes as the median home price in Collier County has surpassed $700,000, while more than 11 percent of area residents are experiencing food insecurity.

“The Schoen Foundation’s commitment to Habitat for Humanity of Collier County has been instrumental in driving positive change within our community over the past two decades of partnership,” said HHCC communications director Jessica Grybek. “This momentous gift continues their inspirational legacy of philanthropy.”

“Luke 12:48, to whom much is given, much will be required,” said foundation trustee Karen Schoen Sutton. “That is really what my parents have lived and have helped us and my children really form who we are.”
